Pavilion, Venice Biennale - Competition shortlist

We propose a flexible events pavilion which develops a tectonic language combined with an exploration of chiaroscuro - the effect of light and shade.

Our gathering space does not directly seek references, but responds to changing external light conditions. Externally the exposed structure casts shadows over the surface, while internally the quality of light is modulated by a staggered sequence of open panels and a filigree curtain from the lace-makers of nearby Burano.
