Swansea Belvedere - Competition

Conceived in collaboration with artist Donald Urquhart, the elemental form of Outlook is a simple statement of site specificity that has a presence in the extended land- and sea-scapes. The visually intriguing structure connects land and sky, city and location, allowing the wider area to be referenced. Formed from an intertwined pair of staircases arranged as a double helix, it is a contemporary and aspirational interpretation of the idea of a 'belvedere' - a structure dedicated to a view and the act of contemplative looking.
